NIGHT WHEN
YOU'RE AWAY
Uncle Chris has taught me how to sing
to charm the pigeons off a tree
And Aunt Marie taught me to love
and a friend of hers taught both of us to ski
Everyone I know and
some I don't have something relevant to say
But no-one's ever
told me how to stay at home at night when you're away
Now
everyone's a sinner and I don't say that makes everything alright
But God gave me this soul of mine and sometimes it gets hungry in
the night.
Heaven helps the friends who come around and help me
make it through the day
But heaven help the girl who tries to
ease me through the night when you're away
Now I thank the
Lord for music, for the pleasure and the dreams that it can bring
And it helps me when I'm lonely for what better way of crying than
to sing
But music needs a listener and it doesn't satisfy me just
to play
I need someone beside me making music through the night
when you're away
Well it hasn't happened yet but I'm afraid
that I can't guarantee it won't
Cos I haven't had the chances and
it might be best for someone if I don't
My love for you gets
stronger but my body's getting weaker by the day
And no-one's
ever told me how to stay at home at night when you're away.
