Allan Bantick welcomes you to his poetry corner |
These humble musings are what can happen when a songwriter tries to stop writing songs and fails. In my case, the only thing that stopped was the music; the words just kept coming. I have always loved poetry since being introduced to the classic poets at school in the 50s when almost all poems rhymed, scanned, had rythm and conveyed ideas that were easily understood by anyone with a reasonable grasp of the language employed.
Writing poetry this way imposes constraints, requires research and is time consuming, but the results I believe are worth the extra effort. I hope you enjoy my contributions to this delightful art form.
SONG LYRICS Over the years I've written lots of songs, some of which work better than others as poems. Here's a selection of some that I think work reasonably well or say something interesting. They don't necessarily scan or rhyme, which is not my style of poetry at all, but that's the way of songs for you. |
